El Hispano News Announces: Wal-Mart Presents $10,000 Grant to Parents Step Ahead

DALLAS, Texas, July 8, 2009 – Today, El Hispano News Newspaper (www.elhispanonews.com) announced that Wal-Mart presented Parents Step Ahead a $10,000 grant during their Crockrell Hill grand re-opening celebration.

The Walmart, located at 1521 North Cockrell Hill Road off Interstate 30 in Dallas, celebrated a grand re-opening, giving local shoppers a glimpse of the company’s next generation of store design and customer experience. Among the many improvements are a new layout, wider aisles, low-profile shelving, bright interior paint scheme, enhanced lighting and easy-to-read signage to make the shopping experience more convenient for customers than ever before.

The celebration began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. During the ceremony, store associates presented grants from the Wal-Mart Foundation to several local organizations including:

 Junior Players Guild
 Parents Step Ahead
 Sunset High School

“On behalf of the board of directors of Parents Step Ahead and the numerous parents whom this grant will assist, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the local Wal-Marts and the Wal-Mart Foundation,” said Lupita Colmenero, founder and chair of Parents Step Ahead. “With this generous donation, we will be able to fulfill our mission in recognizing, educating, enabling, and empowering over 1,800 parents this year to take a proactive role in the educational and personal development of their children.”

Through partnerships with local school districts, companies and community organizations, Parents Step Ahead offers free school-based seminars for parents. During the seminars, Parents Step Ahead presents dynamic speakers and educators on topics ranging from gang awareness, underage drinking, computer and digital literacy, internet safety, health and financial issues, communicating with love, among other topics.

For 2009, Parents Step Ahead has lined up six school-based seminars in the districts of Dallas, Ft. Worth, Irving, and Garland with an estimated attendance of 300 parents per event.
